Samsung's One UI 9 is rolling out to newer Galaxy devices, and it brings a long list of customization tools, according to Engadget. Much of the new control comes through Samsung's official Good Lock suite and its Home Up app.
The update is already stable in some markets. GSMArena reports that after a limited rollout in South Korea, the Android 17-based One UI 9 stable update has now expanded to the US for the Galaxy S25 series. That makes this one of the most widely felt Samsung software updates in years, and most of its appeal is practical rather than flashy.
One UI 9 customization: Good Lock and Home Up
Engadget notes that One UI 9 is not reinventing Samsung's formula, but the small changes add up. To access most of the new options, users need Good Lock and the associated Home Up application installed.
One of the standout additions is Favorites Background inside Home Up's Home Screen area. Once enabled, it lets you add blur and shadow effects, swap the image and color, and redesign the background of your Favorites area. A similar set of options is available for the Edge Panel through the Edge Panel menu in Home Up.
- Favorites Background: blur and shadow effects, custom image and color for the Favorites area
- Edge Panel options inside Home Up
- Multi-finger gestures assignable to actions, such as a two-finger swipe down for screenshots or volume
- Gestures work with two-, three-, four- and five-finger motions
