Elon Musk said SpaceX will rename its AI unit from SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI, according to Reuters, as reported by Techmeme. The SpaceX CEO announced the change in a reply on X, the social platform he owns.
The move lands just as President Donald Trump formalizes his own rebranding of artificial intelligence as "super intelligence." Trump announced a new Super Intelligence Force on Sunday, October 4, 2026, in a post on Truth Social, with national intelligence director Jay Clayton named to lead it. Multiple outlets, including Politico, TechCrunch and Engadget, confirmed the task force and its staffing.
What Trump's Super Intelligence Force will do
According to TechCrunch and Engadget, Trump said the Super Intelligence Force is meant to coordinate federal efforts so the United States stays ahead in what he calls "Super Intelligence." In his Truth Social post, the president described the field as bigger than the Industrial Revolution and the internet, saying it will protect American interests and improve American lives.
The Wall Street Journal, cited by both outlets, reported that the task force has 120 days to produce a report on the risks and opportunities of AI. Its charter reportedly calls for plans to respond to "SI-enabled threats" while avoiding what it calls overregulation and regulatory capture that could stifle innovation and competition. Trump said the group will report to him and his chief of staff, Susie Wiles, per Engadget.
- Chair: Jay Clayton, Director of National Intelligence, effectively the new AI/SI czar
- Vice chairs: Andrew Ferguson (FTC), Emil Michael (Department of Defense), Scott Kupor (Office of Personnel Management)
